A snowmobile carries a rider a long way from the truck, and almost nothing else. The tunnel and rear rack are the only places to put a shovel, a spare belt, dry gloves and food, and anything strapped there loose is wet, frozen or gone by the end of the day. A cargo box made for your sled fixes that. This guide explains what actually matters in a snowmobile box, how the boxes we carry differ, and how to pick the right one.
What matters on a snowmobile that does not matter on a quad
Locks that still open in deep cold. Metal catches pack with snow and can freeze shut after a few hours out. That is why the compact GKA boxes and the Arctic Cat Bearcat box use rubberised locks, which stay usable with gloves on. The larger model-specific boxes for Ski-Doo Expedition, Polaris Titan and AODES SnowCross use metal keyed locks instead — the better choice when the machine is left at a trailhead — paired with a rubber seal around the lid.
Plastic that does not go brittle. Ordinary plastic can crack when it takes a knock in deep cold. The GKA No 3, No 5 and No 6 boxes are moulded from frost-proof reinforced polyethylene; GKA No.1 and No.2 and the larger boxes use high-density polyethylene, the larger ones with ribbing for strength without extra weight — the 115-litre boxes weigh about 10 kg.
A seal, not just a lid. Snow gets everywhere. The large boxes and GKA No.1 and No.2 close over a rubber seal or gasket that keeps snow, water and grime out of the load — the product page says which seal each box has.
A box that stays inside the tunnel. On machines that work between trees, a box that sticks out past the sides finds every branch. The boxes for the Ski-Doo Expedition and the Lynx 49 Ranger were drawn around the rack so they do not protrude beyond the sides of the machine.
Two kinds of snowmobile box
Large model-specific rear boxes: 100–140 litres
Made for one machine family and shaped to its rack, these are the boxes for long routes, ice fishing and work trips. Several have a lid that folds out into a table — the feature owners use most once they have it.
- 140 L rear box for BRP Ski-Doo Expedition, Lynx Commander and Ranger — the largest box for these machines; quick-release fasteners, metal locks, a lid that becomes a table with cup slots.
- 115 L box for BRP Ski-Doo Expedition — sits within the tunnel, metal keyed lock, 10 kg.
- 100 L box for BRP Lynx 49 Ranger — rubber locks that will not freeze, mounted with slings and four fabric fasteners.
- Box for Polaris 800 Titan — fits the existing holes in the luggage area and goes on in under 30 seconds, no tools; metal keyed locks; a two-flap lid that works as a table.
- 140 L rear box for AODES SnowCross 1000 — mounts for a shovel inside the lid and an axe on the side, LinQ-compatible.
- 115 L rear box for AODES SnowCross — clears the backrest, quick-release fasteners, lid doubles as a table.
- 140 L box for Sharmax Ace 1000.
Compact boxes: around 55–70 litres usable
Smaller boxes for utility sleds. A box of this size takes two helmets — or a change of clothes, a shovel, a spare belt and a flask. Several have a flat area on the lid for a GKA fuel can, so extra range rides outside the box.
- GKA No.1 for Ski-Doo and GKA No.2 for BRP Ski-Doo — a universal adjustable U-shaped mounting kit adapts to different tunnel widths; No.2 covers a wide slice of the Ski-Doo utility range, from Skandic and Tundra to Expedition.
- GKA No 5 for Yamaha VK 540 — 55 litres usable; lid mounting area for GKA fuel cans of 4, 5, 10 and 12 litres.
- GKA No 6 for Yamaha Viking Professional — 65 litres usable, a copy of the original Yamaha box shape.
- GKA No 3 for Polaris Widetrak — sits on the standard rack position, lid area for fuel cans.
- 70 L box for Arctic Cat Bearcat — flip-top lid, room inside for fuel cans next to your gear.
How to choose
- Start with your machine. Every box above is made for a particular sled or family, and the product page lists the models it fits. That list is the one to trust. If your exact model or year is not there, email us before ordering.
- Decide how much you carry. For day rides and work around a cabin, a compact 55–70 litre box is enough. For long trips, ice fishing or carrying for two, look at the 100–140 litre boxes.
- Look at how it mounts. Quick-release fasteners into the existing holes take the box on and off in under a minute. A universal U-shaped kit fits a range of tunnel widths. Slings suit the Lynx 49 Ranger rack.
- Think about fuel. If you ride far from fuel, a GKA box with a lid mounting area for a can is the simplest way to add range.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a snowmobile box fit my sled?
Each box is made for a specific machine or family, and the compatible models are listed on its product page. If your model or year is not listed, email mail@atvbox.eu with the model and a photo of the rack and we will confirm before you order.
Will the locks freeze?
The GKA boxes and the Bearcat box use rubberised locks, which do not pack with snow or freeze shut like metal catches. The larger Ski-Doo Expedition, Polaris Titan and AODES boxes use metal keyed locks for security, with a rubber seal around the lid.
Can I carry extra fuel?
Yes. Several GKA boxes have a flat mounting area on the lid for GKA fuel cans, and the Bearcat box has room inside for cans next to your gear. The product page lists which can sizes fit.
