Do I need tools or drilling to install?

Most items mount to factory points using the included hardware and basic hand tools. Drilling is not required unless explicitly stated on the product page.

Is it weather-resistant / waterproof?

Products are designed to be weather-resistant for normal riding conditions. Lids use perimeter seals (where applicable) to help protect contents from rain, snow and dust. Not intended for submersion or pressure-washer jets directed at the seals.

How much weight can I carry?

Please follow the manufacturer’s rated load for your front/rear rack or tunnel. Internal volume is listed on the product page; distribute weight evenly and secure the load.

What materials is it made of? Will it handle low temperatures?

Boxes and canisters are typically made of high-strength, UV- and frost-resistant polyethylene (model-dependent). Hardware is galvanized or stainless steel. Operating range suits most climates; avoid open-flame heat sources and harsh solvents.

Can I use this together with a passenger seat or backrest?

Most rear solutions are designed to stay within vehicle dimensions and not interfere with a passenger. Always check product photos and dimensions; on some models repositioning of handholds/backrests may be required.

Tesseract 5-Litre Expedition Canister

The smallest canister in the Tesseract family, and the one people end up owning several of. Five litres weighs about 5 kg full — light enough to handle one-handed, and small enough that two or three fit where a single 20-litre can would not.

At 80 mm thick it slides into gaps that larger cans cannot use: alongside a box, against a roll cage, in the space left over after everything else is loaded.

Construction is the same as the bigger sizes — relief surfaces and sharp edges that stiffen the walls, BASIC quick-release fastening, filler spout and locking ring included. Empty weight is 1.2 kg.

Use Cases

Topping up rather than refuelling: the litre or two that gets you to the pump, carried without thinking about it. On group rides it is the size everyone can lift and pass around.

Two or three of these distributed across a machine also balance better than a single heavy can on one side — worth considering if the riding is technical.

For longer routes the same design comes in 10 litres and 20 litres.

Compatibility

Universal, through the BASIC quick-release system — it mounts on Tesseract boxes, racks and platforms set up for those fasteners.
