Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

GKA Expedition Case No 3 — 135 Litres

A sealed transport case of 135 litres, 500 × 500 × 600 mm. Made from high-quality reinforced polyethylene of high molecular density, for transporting and storing anything that must not be damaged in transit — electronic and optical devices, weapons, musical instruments, medical and technical equipment.

The tall case on the standard footprint: 600 mm of depth for 135 litres. It takes the things that will not lie flat — a rifle case upright, tall instruments, a stacked set of smaller cases inside it.

The whole line is designed around one idea: the cases stack. A tongue-and-groove profile means a small case sits into a large one and does not move, so a load of five different sizes travels as one block rather than as five things sliding into each other.

Sealing is by an O-ring in the tongue-and-groove joint rather than a flat gasket. The difference matters when the case is submerged or pressure-washed: a flat gasket relies on clamping force alone, an O-ring in a groove seals on its own geometry.

Every metal part is stainless — the handle and lock components, and the rivets, which sit in stainless inserts so the plastic around them cannot be worn oval. The cadmium steel cap locks use a tilted swivel eccentric, which pulls the lid down against the seal rather than merely holding it shut.

Key Features

  • Tongue-and-groove shape: the cases stack into each other rather than sliding around.
  • O-ring seal in the joint: leak-tight and moisture-proof, not merely splash-resistant.
  • Cadmium steel cap locks with a tilted swivel eccentric.
  • −40 to +90 °C operating range.
  • Stainless steel throughout: handle and lock metalwork, and rivets set in stainless inserts.
  • Folding rubberised carry handle and two restraint cables on the lid.

Use Cases

Upright storage where laying equipment flat is not an option.

The base of a stack — 135 litres underneath, smaller cases seated on top.

Cold and heat alike — the material is rated from −40 to +90 °C, so the case works in an unheated trailer in January and in a vehicle in full sun in July.

Compatibility

Universal — a standalone transport case, not fitted to a vehicle.

The GKA expedition line runs to five cases from 56 to 270 litres, plus a 28-litre expedition canister that shares the same construction. Other sizes: No 1, No 2, No 4, No 5, and the 28-litre expedition canister.
