Do I need tools or drilling to install?

Most items mount to factory points using the included hardware and basic hand tools. Drilling is not required unless explicitly stated on the product page.

Is it weather-resistant / waterproof?

Products are designed to be weather-resistant for normal riding conditions. Lids use perimeter seals (where applicable) to help protect contents from rain, snow and dust. Not intended for submersion or pressure-washer jets directed at the seals.

How much weight can I carry?

Please follow the manufacturer’s rated load for your front/rear rack or tunnel. Internal volume is listed on the product page; distribute weight evenly and secure the load.

What materials is it made of? Will it handle low temperatures?

Boxes and canisters are typically made of high-strength, UV- and frost-resistant polyethylene (model-dependent). Hardware is galvanized or stainless steel. Operating range suits most climates; avoid open-flame heat sources and harsh solvents.

Can I use this together with a passenger seat or backrest?

Most rear solutions are designed to stay within vehicle dimensions and not interfere with a passenger. Always check product photos and dimensions; on some models repositioning of handholds/backrests may be required.

12.5-Litre Fuel Can for Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 High Lifter

A 12.5-litre fuel can made only for the High Lifter machines — the Polaris High Lifter 1000 and the Sportsman 850 High Lifter. Its shape follows the contours of both the box lid and the rear rack, so it can be mounted in either place.

That matters more on a High Lifter than on other quads. The rear box on these machines is deliberately small — 50 litres — so being able to put fuel on the bare rack instead of the lid keeps what little storage there is available for gear.

Installation takes thirty seconds: the two supplied fasteners drop into the designated holes and tighten by hand. A fitted can does not obstruct the lid, and up to two can be carried for 25 litres in reserve.

Use Cases

Mud riding burns fuel far faster than trail riding does, and a High Lifter far from a pump is a long walk. Twelve and a half litres is the margin that lets you keep going rather than turning for home.

Because the can also mounts on the bare rack, riders without a box fitted still have somewhere proper to carry fuel — no straps, no bungees, nothing shifting when the machine is on its side in a hole.

It docks with the 50-litre High Lifter box. Note the variant: the standard Sportsman is a different machine with a different rack, and it takes the 15-litre can for the XP 1000 instead.
